Can You Help

Colin is a 72 year old pensioner and, whilst he is very fit, he has old bones but he is doing tremendously well on this walk but we need a bit of help from you!

Accommodation

Colin is carrying a tent and other equipment (kindly sponsored by Peglers of Arundel) but sleeping on the ground takes its toll at his age.  If anyone can offer Colin a bed for the night when he stops in your town or village, we would be most grateful.  Most of the bed and breakfasts and camping sites that Colin has used so far have offered the accommodation either free of charge (which is wonderful) or at a reduced rate and we are very grateful to all those who have been so generous.  Many have also held collections to help boost Colin’s fundraising total as well.  Colin has also stayed overnight with many families affected by metabolic diseases and the impact of this warmth and friendship is beyond measure.  Thank you all.

However, Colin is still only 1,600 miles into his 4,000 mile plus journey and just over five months into an eleven and a half month walk.  There are many more nights’ accommodation needed so if anyone can help please do get in touch with the team at Climb who are co-ordinating for him.

Fundraising

Please help Colin to achieve his aim of raising £50,000 for Climb.  You could:

  • Collect sponsorship from your friends, relations, colleagues and contacts
  • Send an e-mail with a link to Colin’s on-line donations page (http://www.justgiving.com/walkgb) to everyone in your contacts list asking them to contribute
  • Hold an event to support Colin’s efforts eg a Garden Party or barbecue and invite the neighbours or organise a pub collection, etc (for more ideas, please contact Climb)
  • Persuade your company, school or other organisation to hold an event or sponsor Colin directly

Publicity

(Climb has posters, press releases and leaflets to help)

  • Put up posters in your area publicising Colin’s Walk, eg in your local library, surgery, corner shop, supermarket, post office, etc  Even if he is not walking along a stretch of coastline near you, the publicity generated could encourage folk to donate
  • Contact your local papers, TV stations and radio programmes and let them know about Colin, especially if he is currently passing through the area covered by your contacts
  • Contact your local Mayor or other civic dignitary, MP, football club, a local celebrity or a well known individual who is popular in your community and ask them to meet up with Colin for a photographic opportunity.  Invite your local paper, too.

Walking

Are you a keen walker?  Do you belong to a ramblers’ club?  Why not meet up with Colin and walk a stretch of coastline with him?  Colin is a very friendly character and walking on his own is quite lonely at times, so please join him and help him along the way.

Please help Colin to achieve his aim, to keep walking and to raise £50,000 for Climb.
